These baby heads were designed to be used as teaching aides for training midwives.
Four separate 'skins' were created, each with differing levels of swelling. These were pulled over a dense foam 'core', that represented the skull, complete with sutures and fontanelles.
They were first sculpted in oil-based clay before a 4-part fibreglass mould was created for each skin. Silicone was then injected into the mould to create the castings. MDF and silicone moulds were used to cast the black foam cores.
